Xpeng targets 60,000 monthly sales in Q4 as Mona L05 teaser lands

Xpeng teased the Mona L05 SUV ahead of a Q4 launch as CEO He Xiaopeng targets over 60,000 monthly deliveries — about 45% above September's 41,256 units.

Scope of change

  1. Xpeng targets monthly sales above 60,000 vehicles in Q4, about 45% above September's 41,256 deliveries.
  2. The Mona L05 is scheduled to launch in China in Q4, per CEO He Xiaopeng's August 24 earnings call remarks.
  3. The mid-size SUV measures 4,870 mm long on a 2,940 mm wheelbase and offers BEV and EREV variants.
  4. Xpeng's first-nine-month deliveries fell 9.20% year-on-year to 284,367 vehicles.
  5. Q3 deliveries hit a record 118,390 vehicles, up 2.05% year-on-year.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) is aiming to push monthly sales above 60,000 vehicles in the fourth quarter — roughly 45% above its September delivery level — as it teased the Mona L05 SUV ahead of a planned Q4 launch in China.

The company announced the model on Weibo on Monday, positioning it as a spacious 5-seat SUV for younger buyers. It disclosed no debut date and no pricing.

Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng set the timeline on the August 24 earnings call. The Mona L05 was scheduled to launch in China in the fourth quarter, he said, joining other new models in driving sales growth.

What do the filings show?

The Mona L05 is a mid-size SUV positioned above the compact Mona L03, which launched in July. Earlier regulatory filings give the dimensions and powertrain mix:

  • Length 4,870 mm, width 1,930 mm, height 1,636 mm, wheelbase 2,940 mm
  • Two powertrain variants: battery electric (BEV) and extended-range electric (EREV)
  • BEV: 71.1-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, CLTC range of 615 to 660 km depending on variant
  • EREV: 1.5-liter range extender paired with a 37.2-kWh battery pack
  • Both versions use a drive motor with a maximum output of 183 kW (245 hp)

Why the model blitz matters

The teaser comes as Xpeng rolls out a string of SUVs to broaden market coverage, though its deliveries this year remain below year-earlier levels.

The company launched the 5-seat flagship G9L SUV in China on September 17, forming a dual-flagship lineup alongside the 6-seat GX SUV. Mona L03 deliveries exceeded 10,000 vehicles in September, and the company says production capacity for it is still ramping up.

Xpeng delivered 41,256 vehicles in September, its highest monthly total this year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. That was up 5.50% from August but down 0.78% from a year earlier.

Third-quarter deliveries reached a record 118,390 vehicles, up 2.05% year-on-year. Even so, first-nine-month deliveries totaled 284,367 vehicles — down 9.20% from a year earlier.

What to watch next

The gap between the 60,000-unit monthly target and September's 41,256 deliveries frames the fourth quarter for Xpeng. Watch for the Mona L05's launch date and pricing in China, the pace of the Mona L03 capacity ramp, and whether G9L volumes can help close the 45% gap He Xiaopeng's target implies.
