Xpeng Targets 10,000 Mona L05 Deliveries in First Month
Xpeng CEO He Xiaopeng targets 10,000 Mona L05 deliveries in month one from a dedicated production line, with 5,000 launch units already sold out ahead of a Q4 sales push.
Scope of change
- Xpeng targets 10,000 Mona L05 deliveries in the first month, CEO He Xiaopeng said November 12
- 5,000 near-ready units sold out shortly after pricing was announced; starting price 139,800 yuan ($20,820)
- Xpeng delivered a record 50,237 vehicles in October and aims for 60,000+ monthly in Q4
- L05 is built on a dedicated line that will not affect Mona L03 production, VP Yu Tao said
- Global shipments began October 26, targeting 65 countries and regions
Xpeng has set a target of 10,000 Mona L05 deliveries in the SUV's first month on the market, chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng told a delivery ceremony for the model's first owners on Wednesday.
The figure matters because Xpeng is leaning on the L05 as a pillar of its fourth-quarter sales push. He said on the company's August earnings call that with the L05 and the new G9L in the lineup, Xpeng aims to challenge monthly sales above 60,000 vehicles in Q4. That would be a step up even from October's record: the company delivered 50,237 vehicles that month, its best figure yet, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Ten thousand a month works out to roughly 330 cars a day leaving plants — ambitious for a model that only went on sale October 29.
Can the plant keep up without hurting the L03?
Xpeng vice president Yu Tao said the Mona L05 is built on a brand-new, dedicated production line, and its production and deliveries will not affect models such as the Mona L03. That's the claim to watch; volume splits across shared capacity have tripped up launches before. Yu added that the L05, as a model aimed at global markets, follows globalized standards from manufacturing through quality control.
The early demand signal looks solid. Xpeng sold out 5,000 units of near-ready inventory shortly after pricing was announced. The limited-time starting price is 139,800 yuan ($20,820), with a guide price range of 144,800 to 176,800 yuan.
What's the product underneath the target?
The L05 is the third model in the Mona series, a five-seat mid-size SUV measuring 4,870 mm long with a 2,940 mm wheelbase. It comes in two powertrains:
- BEV: maximum CLTC range of 635 km (395 miles), minimum consumption of 11.7 kWh per 100 km, 30-to-80 percent charging in 15.8 minutes, 0-100 km/h in as fast as 6.8 seconds.
- EREV: maximum combined CLTC range of 1,310 km, with up to 310 km on battery alone.
Xpeng said it adapted and developed the L05 for 82 countries and regions, built to five-star safety standards in China, Europe and Australia. The company deployed 660 test vehicles across 25 countries and regions, logging more than 5 million kilometers of testing — roughly 125 laps of the Earth.
Where does it sell next?
Global shipments began October 26, targeting sales in 65 countries and regions. Xpeng has yet to disclose delivery timelines for individual overseas markets, so the export story is an intention, not yet a confirmed schedule.
What to watch next: whether the dedicated line actually clears 10,000 units in month one, and whether October's 50,237-unit record becomes the floor rather than the ceiling on the road to that 60,000-vehicle quarter.
