Xpeng Ships Mona L05 Overseas Before China Launch, Targets 65 Markets
Xpeng has shipped the Mona L05 overseas ahead of its October 29 China launch, targeting 65 markets. CEO He Xiaopei aims for 60,000 monthly Q4 sales. Details on volumes and destinations remain undisclosed.
Scope of change
- Xpeng targets 65 countries and regions for the Mona L05, with global shipments starting before the October 29 China launch.
- Pre-sale pricing in China starts at 169,800 yuan ($25,280) across 5 BEV and EREV variants.
- Xpeng says 660 test vehicles underwent extreme-condition testing across 25 countries and regions.
- September deliveries reached 41,256 vehicles, up 5.50% month-on-month but down 0.78% year-on-year.
- CEO He Xiaopeng targets over 60,000 monthly sales in Q4 with the G9L and Mona L05.

Xpeng has begun global shipments of the Mona L05 into a planned 65 countries and regions — before the SUV even launches in its home market. The China launch and a "Mona World" owners' gathering are scheduled for October 29. The company announced the shipments on Weibo on Monday.
The sequence is unusual. Overseas shipments normally follow a domestic launch. Xpeng did not disclose the size of the initial shipment, the destination markets or any delivery schedules. That gap matters more than the headline number of 65 markets.
What did Xpeng actually confirm?
The confirmed facts are these:
- The Mona L05 is the third model in the Mona series, aimed at younger buyers.
- It is a 5-seat mid-size SUV positioned above the Mona L03, which launched in July.
- Left- and right-hand-drive versions were developed in parallel.
- Xpeng says it deployed 660 vehicles for extreme-condition testing across 25 countries and regions.
The testing program, per promotional images, included high-speed cabin noise assessments in Germany, powertrain evaluations at high altitude in Mexico, and reliability testing at 50 degrees Celsius in the UAE and minus 25 degrees Celsius in Norway.
What about safety and technology claims?
Xpeng said the L05 was developed to meet 5-star standards in China, Europe and Australia, with 7 airbags, a 2,000 MPa-class body structure and multiple battery protection layers. The materials listed C-NCAP 2024, Euro NCAP 2027 and ANCAP 2027 — references to development targets, not achieved ratings. No actual crash-test results were disclosed.
The company also teased a European debut of its Turing AI driver-assistance system, citing a second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model and up to 1,500 TOPS of effective computing power. It gave no roll-out date.
How is it priced and specified?
Pre-sales opened in China on October 15 at 169,800 yuan ($25,280), topping out at 191,800 yuan across 5 variants. The range spans BEV and EREV powertrains.
- BEV versions: up to 635 km CLTC range (395 miles).
- EREV versions: 310 km CLTC battery range, 1,310 km combined with a full tank and battery.
The global shipment announcement did not specify which powertrains go to which overseas market. ($1 = 6.7162 yuan.)
Does the export push mask a sales problem?
The backdrop is a delivery recovery that is incomplete. Xpeng delivered 41,256 vehicles in September, its best month this year, up 5.50% from August but down 0.78% year-on-year, according to CnEVPost data. First-nine-month deliveries totaled 284,367 vehicles, down 9.20% from a year earlier.
Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said on an August earnings call that Xpeng would aim to exceed 60,000 monthly sales in the fourth quarter, aided by new models including the G9L and Mona L05. That target implies roughly a 45% jump from September's level in a single quarter.
What to watch next
Watch three things. The October 29 China launch should reveal final pricing and first delivery dates. Overseas, the test is whether Xpeng names actual markets, powertrain allocations and volumes — none of which it has provided so far. And Q4 monthly sales against the 60,000-unit target will show whether the export-first strategy reflects strength or the need for new demand.
