Nissan Starts Frontier Pro Sales in Mexico, First Launch Outside China

Nissan starts Frontier Pro sales in Mexico this month — its first China-developed model exported globally, with PHEV and ICE variants rolling out to four regions through 2027.

Scope of change

  1. Frontier Pro goes on sale in Mexico this month, the model's first launch outside China
  2. Philippines receives the truck as Navara Pro in November 2026; Australia and New Zealand follow in 2027 as first RHD markets
  3. Powertrains: ICE for the Middle East; 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre PHEVs for Latin America, ASEAN and Oceania
  4. Nissan has sold more than 15 million pickups across 140+ markets since the 1934 Type 13
  5. China-built N7 electric sedan is next in the export plan for ASEAN and Latin America

Nissan begins selling the Frontier Pro pickup in Mexico this month, the model's first market launch outside China and the start of an international rollout spanning four regions through 2027.

The company calls it the first Nissan model developed and produced in China for global export. Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile, Nissan's joint venture in China, designed the five-seat truck and will build it for all export markets.

Nissan will not comment yet on volumes, but the rollout schedule is concrete: Mexico first, then the rest of Latin America and the Middle East by the end of 2026, with Australia and New Zealand following in 2027 as the first right-hand-drive markets.

Which powertrains go where?

Nissan will tailor powertrains by market. The lineup includes:

  • An internal combustion engine (ICE) version, earmarked for the Middle East
  • A 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV)
  • A 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV), both bound for Latin America, ASEAN and Oceania

The PHEV configuration marks Nissan's first electrified pickup platform and carries vehicle-to-load functionality, letting the truck power external equipment.

The Philippines gets the vehicle in November 2026, badged Navara Pro.

Why does China now export Nissans?

The launch anchors a broader strategy: Nissan intends to use its Chinese joint-venture operations for engineering, manufacturing and exports to international markets. The Frontier Pro and Navara Pro lines are the first fruit of that plan.

A second model follows. Nissan plans to export the China-built N7 electrified sedan to markets including ASEAN and Latin America, extending the joint-venture export pipeline beyond pickups.

The move gives Nissan a lower-cost engineering and manufacturing base at a time when Chinese-developed vehicles increasingly compete on price and feature content in emerging markets — the same territories this rollout targets.

Nissan chief performance officer Guillaume Cartier framed the product pitch: "By combining advanced technology, impressive performance and Nissan's renowned quality and durability, we have created a pickup that reflects Nissan's Dare Beyond ambition, challenging expectations while remaining practical for everyday life."

How deep does Nissan's pickup heritage run?

The company has recorded cumulative pickup sales of more than 15 million units across upwards of 140 markets since the Type 13 truck arrived in 1934. That installed base explains why Nissan picked a pickup, not a passenger car, to open its China-export channel.

The Frontier Pro rollout also sits alongside other recent product news. Last month Nissan unveiled its all-new Pixo battery-powered city car, developed with Renault mainly for European markets under its 'Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life' theme.

What to watch next: Mexico deliveries this month as the first test of China-built Nissan acceptance in a pickup-dominated market; the Philippines Navara Pro launch in November 2026; and whether Nissan confirms local assembly or CKD kits for Latin America as volumes scale.
