Zotye's right-hand-drive Wink Y01 rolls off line, deliveries set for 2027
Zotye says its right-hand-drive Wink Y01 EV has rolled off the line, with mass production and deliveries targeted for early 2027, but warns funding remains uncertain and no sales exist yet.
Scope of change
- Right-hand-drive Wink Y01 rolled off the line; mass production and deliveries targeted for early 2027
- Zotye signed a deal for an Indian KD assembly plant with annual capacity of 30,000 vehicles
- Company targets dealer agreements in 25 countries by end-2026 and 55 countries long-term
- The 3.9-meter battery electric model has generated no sales; funding availability could shift the timeline
- Zotye emerged from bankruptcy restructuring and was dormant before its September 9 trial-production announcement
Early 2027 is the new delivery target for Zotye Auto's right-hand-drive Wink Y01, which the company says has rolled off the production line in China.
Zotye (SZSE: 000980) disclosed the milestone in a statement on Thursday. It set mass production and deliveries for early 2027, but attached two caveats: the model has generated no sales yet, and funding remains uncertain. Both warnings sit in the company's own statement, not in outside analysis.
The roll-off marks progress in the overseas push by the Chinese automaker, which has emerged from bankruptcy restructuring. Zotye had been largely dormant until September 9, when it announced the Wink Y01 international model had entered batch trial production. That announcement briefly sent its shares sharply higher, though it offered no timeline for volume output. The latest statement supplies one.
What is the Wink Y01?
The vehicle is a small battery electric car developed specifically for overseas markets. The right-hand-drive version measures more than 3.9 meters in length. Zotye did not disclose pricing in its latest statement — a notable gap for a model now physically out of the factory.
Where will it be built abroad?
Zotye said it previously signed two agreements:
- A deal with an Indian partner for a knocked-down (KD) assembly plant with annual capacity of 30,000 vehicles
- A strategic cooperation agreement with Indonesia's BPKN
KD assembly means importing components in kit form for local assembly, a common low-capital route into emerging markets. No production start date for either site appears in the statement.
How big is the distribution ambition?
The company plans to make South and Southeast Asia the core of its overseas business, focusing on India and Indonesia. It aims to sign dealer agreements in 25 countries by the end of 2026, with a longer-term goal of reaching 55 countries worldwide.
Those goals remain intentions. None has been realized so far. In a September statement, Zotye warned of uncertainties surrounding regulatory certification, distribution network development and demand in its target markets.
What could stall the plan?
Money, mainly. The company reiterated that mass production and market launches will require continued investment, and that funding availability could affect the overseas sales timeline. Moving from a roll-out ceremony to actual sales is the expensive part, and Zotye has flagged that risk itself.
A bankrupt-restructured automaker with no current model sales is asking investors to fund a 55-country distribution build-out, and the statement offers no financing figure, no pricing and no confirmed production volume for the Wink Y01.
What to watch next: whether dealer agreements in the promised 25 countries materialize by end-2026, and whether the India KD plant's 30,000-unit capacity converts from signed paper into installed equipment before the early-2027 delivery window.
