Vimag Labs Starts Motor Production in Jhajjar, Plans ₹50 Crore Build-Out

Vimag Labs begins motor production in Jhajjar, Haryana, exports its first batch and plans ₹50 crore phased investment toward 10,000 systems per month.

Scope of change

  1. Vimag Labs started production at a 10,000 sq ft facility in Met City, Jhajjar, Haryana, expandable to about 20,000 sq ft.
  2. The company plans roughly ₹50 crore of phased investment, with timing dependent on customer demand.
  3. Target network capacity is up to 10,000 motor and control systems per month.
  4. The expansion is expected to create 100–150 direct and indirect jobs.
  5. Vimag raised US$5 million in Series A funding led by Accel and plans systems rated 570 kW and above.

Vimag Labs has started production at its first manufacturing facility in Met City, Jhajjar, Haryana, and has already exported its first completed batch of motor and control systems. The Bengaluru-based electric motor developer plans roughly ₹50 crore of phased investment in Indian manufacturing, with timing and scale tied to customer demand rather than a fixed schedule.

The figure deserves scrutiny. It is an announced intention, not a committed capital plan, and the company itself frames it as conditional. Manish Seth, Co-founder and CEO of Vimag Labs, said: "We are currently planning around Rs 50 crore of investment, to be deployed in phases as customer programmes, traction and product requirements develop."

What is running at Jhajjar today?

The facility currently covers 10,000 sq ft, with provision to expand to approximately 20,000 sq ft — roughly the footprint of a small tier-two supplier rather than a volume plant. It houses clean-room areas, automated production lines, digitally connected manufacturing systems, Industry 4.0 and IoT-enabled monitoring, and product testing and traceability systems.

The initial phase focuses on production and process validation of mid-power motor and control systems for electric mobility and other electrified applications. The company's proprietary product line is a magnet-free motor technology, branded VMSM (Virtual Magnet Synchronous Motor), which removes rare-earth permanent magnets from the rotor.

What capacity does Vimag claim?

The company aims to develop a manufacturing network capable of up to 10,000 motor and control systems per month, depending on customer demand and programme volumes. That figure describes a future network, not the current Jhajjar output, and no present run-rate was disclosed.

Vimag also plans to extend into high-power motor and control systems rated at 570 kW and above as customer programmes progress. That expansion will require additional manufacturing, testing and production infrastructure, and the company is evaluating further locations and partnerships across India.

The company expects the expansion to generate approximately 100–150 direct and indirect jobs across manufacturing, engineering, quality, testing, supply chain and operations.

How is the scale-up funded?

Vimag Labs recently raised US$5 million in a Series A round led by Accel, with participation from Chakra Growth Fund and Thinkuvate. It has signed a manufacturing MoU with Jendamark Pvt. Ltd. to support the scale-up of its VMSM technology, and it holds an exclusive U.S. technology licensing, manufacturing and commercialisation agreement for a bidirectional high-voltage inverter platform capable of operating at up to 1,000 volts.

Seth framed the Jhajjar start as a shift in company stage: "The commencement of manufacturing marks an important transition for Vimag from technology development and validation into industrialisation and serial production. Jhajjar is the first step in a broader manufacturing build-out."

He added: "The first production batch has already been exported from Jhajjar, demonstrating that the facility has moved into commercial manufacturing."

What to watch next

Watch three markers. First, disclosure of actual monthly output from Jhajjar against the 10,000-system network target. Second, firm customer programme commitments that convert the ₹50 crore intention into committed, dated capital. Third, the decision on additional plant locations or partnerships as the 570 kW-and-above high-power line moves toward production.
