Stellantis CEO rules out splitting European and US brands
Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa calls a Europe-US brand split "not plausible at all", citing shared powertrain and software technology across the group's 14 marques.
Scope of change
- CEO Antonio Filosa called a Europe-US brand separation "not plausible at all" in a Bloomberg TV interview at the Paris Motor Show.
- Stellantis showed more than 60 vehicles from eight brands at the Paris Motor Show, running 12–18 October 2026.
- The FaSTLAne 2030 plan, unveiled in May, is a €60bn five-year investment programme.
- Stellantis took full ownership of its Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu plant by buying out CK Birla Group's JV stake.
- Filosa said the group has "already crossed the point to be profitable again" after last year's loss.
Stellantis chief executive Antonio Filosa has rejected any separation of the group's European and US brands, calling the idea "not plausible at all" in remarks to Bloomberg Television at the Paris Motor Show.
His reasoning is technical as much as financial. Stellantis develops powertrains and software architecture for its global vehicle range, and all 14 of its marques use these systems as their technological foundation. Splitting the group along regional lines would break that shared platform logic. Filosa said the company depends on this common technology across the portfolio.
The statement closes off one of the more persistent structural questions hanging over the automaker. Created in 2021 through the merger of Fiat Chrysler and France's PSA Group, Stellantis spans American nameplates such as Jeep, Dodge and Ram alongside European brands including Peugeot, Citroën and Opel. Investors and analysts have periodically floated the idea that the two halves would be worth more apart.
What is Filosa actually reviewing?
The CEO is examining the group's strategy, including how investment is allocated between the marques. Several brands compete for the same mass-market customers, which makes capital allocation a live question inside the company.
He also ruled out a disposal of Maserati. Stellantis is "not at all" considering selling the sports car brand, he said.
On the financial picture, Filosa was blunt. The automaker recorded another loss last year, but the group has "already crossed the point to be profitable again", he said. That claim is a management assertion; the next full-year results will show whether the turnaround has taken hold.
What role do Chinese partners play?
Stellantis showed more than 60 vehicles from eight brands at the Paris Motor Show, including nine concept cars. The event runs from 12 to 18 October 2026.
Among the displays was the all-electric Citroën 2CV concept, which uses technology developed by Chinese partner Leapmotor (a Zhejiang-based automaker in which Stellantis holds a significant stake). The company has also set out plans to deepen its relationship with Dongfeng Motor.
Filosa has previously argued that cooperation with Chinese companies could help Europe absorb surplus manufacturing capacity without plant closures. That position matters for the group's European footprint, where utilisation rates have been under pressure.
Where does the €60bn plan stand?
Stellantis unveiled its FaSTLAne 2030 strategic plan in May this year. The €60bn, five-year programme is intended to accelerate growth and profit as the company works through its turnaround.
The group has also moved to consolidate its position in India. Last month Stellantis acquired CK Birla Group's remaining interest in their Indian joint venture, gaining full ownership of the manufacturing operations at Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu.
What to watch next: the next set of financial results, which will test Filosa's profitability claim; the investment allocation decisions within the FaSTLAne 2030 plan; and whether the deepened Dongfeng and Leapmotor cooperation translates into concrete capacity arrangements in Europe.
