Adient swings to $47m Q4 GAAP loss but holds adjusted profit at $40m

Adient reported a $47m GAAP net loss for Q4 FY26 against $3.7bn flat revenue, while full-year net income fell 9% to $147m on revenue up 4%.

Scope of change

  1. Q4 FY26 GAAP net loss of $47m versus $18m net income in Q4 2025
  2. Q4 revenue flat at $3.7bn; Q4 adjusted net income $40m vs $42m
  3. Full-year net income $147m, down 9%; revenue up 4% to €15,168m
  4. China sales outperformed on launches with NIO, Leapmotor and Xiaomi
  5. Rest of Asia dragged by softer Korea volumes and Middle East export disruption

Adient posted a GAAP net loss of $47m for its fourth fiscal quarter, ended 30 September, a reversal from net income of $18m in the same quarter a year earlier. Revenue for the quarter came in at $3.7bn, flat against the prior-year period, the seating supplier reported.

The GAAP loss did not carry through to the adjusted line. Adient said Q4 adjusted net income was $40m, against $42m in Q4 of fiscal 2025 — a modest decline of roughly 5%. For the full fiscal year, net income reached $147m, down 9% on 2025. Full-year revenue rose 4% to €15,168m.

The gap between the GAAP loss and the adjusted profit points to one-off charges booked in the quarter, although the company did not itemise them in its release. (Adjusted figures strip out restructuring costs, impairments and other items the company treats as non-recurring.)

How did each region perform?

The quarter split sharply across Adient's four reporting regions.

  • Americas: outperformed the market, on strong volumes with key customers and on pricing.
  • EMEA: underperformed the market, mainly because of customer mix — a reminder that seat maker results track which programmes, not just how many vehicles, roll off the line.
  • China: consolidated sales beat the broader market on new programme launches, primarily with NIO, Leapmotor and Xiaomi.
  • Rest of Asia: underperformed, dragged by softer volumes in Korea and lower exports tied to Middle East disruptions.

The China result is the standout for Tier 1 watchers. Winning launches with three of China's fastest-scaling EV brands gives Adient exposure to the segment growing fastest in the world's largest vehicle market, offsetting weaker export volumes elsewhere in Asia.

What did management say?

President and Chief Executive Jerome Dorlack framed fiscal 2026 as a year of steadiness under pressure. He said: "Fiscal 2026 demonstrated the resilience of our business and the strength of our team's execution in a dynamic production environment. We grew revenue, held adjusted EBITDA steady and made meaningful progress in the areas within our control."

Looking ahead, Dorlack was direct about priorities: "As we enter fiscal 2027, our priorities remain clear: execute our operating plans, improve margins and deliver for our customers."

The margin reference matters. A 9% drop in full-year net income on 4% revenue growth means profitability, not volume, is the pressure point — and management has put it at the top of the agenda for fiscal 2027.

What to watch next

Three markers will show whether Adient's fiscal 2027 plan is working: the pace of margin recovery in the first half, the ramp of the NIO, Leapmotor and Xiaomi seating programmes in China, and any recovery in Korean volumes and Middle East export routes that weighed on the Rest of Asia region this quarter. The company's next quarterly report will give the first read on whether the adjusted EBITDA it held steady this year can now expand.
