German OEM books neueHCT HCT Luna smart camera for China programme

QNX and Aumovio-Horizon JV neueHCT confirm the first global HCT Luna smart camera programme for an unnamed German automaker's platform entering China production in 2027, targeting several million units across three years.

Scope of change

  1. Production scheduled to begin in 2027 in China; programme set to extend to Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea
  2. Cumulative volumes projected at several million units across the first three years
  3. HCT Luna runs on Horizon Robotics Journey 6B compute platform and QNX OS for Safety 8.0
  4. neueHCT was established in 2022 as a joint venture between Aumovio and Horizon Robotics
  5. Companies describe the programme as the first major global deployment of the QNX-based HCT Luna solution

A global passenger vehicle platform from an unnamed German automaker will enter mass production in China in 2027 carrying neueHCT's QNX-powered HCT Luna smart camera as standard equipment. The companies project cumulative volumes at several million units across the first three years, then plan roll-outs to Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea.

The volume target marks the first disclosed figure for a HCT Luna programme. BlackBerry's QNX automotive software unit and neueHCT confirmed the selection jointly. Production starts in China before extending to four additional Asian markets.

What is neueHCT shipping?

HCT Luna is a front-view smart camera built around Horizon Robotics' Journey 6B automotive compute platform and QNX OS for Safety 8.0. The package bundles automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, traffic light recognition, vehicle cut-in handling, sharp-curve response, construction-zone behaviour and lane centring in low-marking or unmarked lanes.

QNX and neueHCT describe the programme as the first major global deployment of the QNX-based HCT Luna solution. Its use extends from individual vehicle applications to multiple platforms and models within the German OEM's portfolio, signalling a fitment intended to scale across programmes rather than a single-model scope.

Who is the supplier?

neueHCT operates as a 2022-established joint venture between Aumovio and Horizon Robotics. It supplies advanced driver assistance systems and intelligent driving solutions to global OEMs across passenger cars, two-wheeled mobility and Level 4 autonomous logistics vehicles.

The Tier-1 positioning matters: it allows neueHCT to bid on vehicle programmes at the architecture stage rather than as a downstream integrator.

COO Simon Zhang framed the win as cross-market validation: "By combining our scalable intelligent driving architecture with Horizon Robotics' Journey 6B platform and QNX OS for Safety 8.0, we are providing automakers with a high-quality solution that meets market access requirements and user needs across diverse overseas markets and regions."

Where does QNX sit?

QNX supplies the safety-certified operating system that runs the perception and planning software on Journey 6B silicon. QNX president John Wall tied the win to a scaling thesis: "This programme demonstrates the role QNX OS for Safety 8.0 can play in helping scale advanced driver assistance capabilities across platforms, models and markets."

Earlier this year, QNX and German software company Vector launched Alloy Kore, a foundational vehicle software platform targeted at software-defined vehicles. The HCT Luna programme gives QNX a second mass-volume 2026 data point alongside the Vector tie-up.

What to watch next

  • The 2027 start of production in China and the identity of the contract manufacturer behind it
  • Volume tracking across years one through three against the several-million-unit target
  • Roll-out sequencing for Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea
  • Whether the German OEM identifies itself at start of production or at formal launch
  • Additional platform or model extensions drawn from this first HCT Luna reference

neueHCT and QNX did not name the German automaker, the assembly plant or a per-year capacity figure, citing only the cumulative three-year volume target.
