Swedish radar antenna supplier Gapwaves has signed a supply agreement with Desay SV, the Chinese Tier 1 electronics maker, covering series production of radar antennas for a global OEM program.

The deal marks Gapwaves' first confirmed entry into series production in the Chinese automotive market. Desay SV, headquartered in Huizhou, Guangdong province, ranks among China's largest automotive electronics suppliers and serves both domestic and international OEMs with driver assistance and cockpit electronics.

For Gapwaves, the agreement converts years of waveguide antenna development work into a production contract in the world's largest car market. The company's high-frequency antenna technology targets advanced driver assistance systems, where 77 GHz radar platforms continue to spread across vehicle segments.

What the agreement covers

Under the supply agreement, Desay SV will integrate Gapwaves' radar antennas into series production for an unnamed global OEM. Neither party has disclosed volumes, contract value, program timing or the start of production date in the announcement carried by Finansavisen.

That absence of numbers matters. In the supplier tier below the big radar semiconductor and module players, antenna specialists routinely announce design wins that never reach meaningful volume. Production data from China's ADAS market shows intense price pressure on Tier 1s, and Huizhou-based Desay SV competes directly with Bosch, Continental and local rivals such as Hesai-backed module makers on cost per unit.

Gapwaves frames the agreement as a strategic step rather than a quantified capacity commitment. Investors and OEM sourcing teams will want to see a confirmed start of production, an annual unit figure and named vehicle platforms before treating the contract as material to volume.

Why China, why now

Chinese OEMs and the China operations of global OEMs continue to add radar content per vehicle as regulation and competition push ADAS downmarket into sub-150,000 yuan segments. Desay SV has grown its driver assistance business on exactly that trend, supplying domain controllers and sensor integration programs.

A supply agreement with an established Chinese Tier 1 gives Gapwaves local manufacturing context without the capital cost of building its own plant in Guangdong or elsewhere. It also positions the Swedish supplier to bid on follow-on programs as Desay SV expands its radar module business.

What to watch next

The milestones that will verify this announcement: a confirmed start of production date, first disclosed volumes or revenue guidance from Gapwaves, and whether the unnamed global OEM extends the antenna sourcing to additional platforms or regions beyond China.
