FAW-VW Teases Second ID. AURA Model: Compact EV Sedan Likely Next

FAW-VW teased a compact electric sedan over three days in October, likely the ID. AURA L5 and the lineup's second model after the T6 SUV launched September 20.

Scope of change

  1. FAW-VW teased the new model across three consecutive days, October 12–14.
  2. The first ID. AURA model, the T6 SUV, launched September 20 priced 129,900–166,900 yuan ($19,320+).
  3. Auto Home reports the new vehicle is expected to be a compact EV sedan, possibly named ID. AURA L5.
  4. All T6 variants use the CEA architecture jointly developed by Volkswagen and Xpeng; two versions add LiDAR.
  5. FAW-VW plans 4 all-new NEV models for 2026, including 2 in the ID. AURA lineup.

Two models in one year: that's the pace FAW-Volkswagen set for its ID. AURA lineup, and a compact electric sedan teased over three days in October looks set to be the second.

The joint venture released teaser images from October 12 to 14, showing lights, body contours, windows and — in the final image — what appears to be a frameless door. No name, no powertrain details, no launch date. Volkswagen's China operation has learned the art of the slow reveal.

Chinese automotive media outlet Auto Home reported Wednesday that the vehicle is expected to be a compact electric sedan, potentially named ID. AURA L5. It could be the production version of the ID. AURA concept Volkswagen unveiled in April 2025 — the brand's first concept on the CMP (Compact Main Platform).

What do the teasers actually confirm?

Not much, on their own. The images confirm FAW-VW has another AURA-branded vehicle coming. Everything else rests on Auto Home's reporting:

  • Compact electric sedan format, possibly badged ID. AURA L5
  • CMP platform with China-specific CEA (China Electronic Architecture)
  • Styling carried over from the April 2025 concept

If accurate, the sedan would extend ID. AURA from SUVs into the segment where the concept began.

The lineup so far

The first ID. AURA model to reach showrooms wasn't the sedan concept at all — it was the T6 SUV. FAW-Volkswagen launched it on September 20 in four variants priced from 129,900 yuan (about $19,320) to 166,900 yuan, or roughly $19,300 to $24,800 at the current 6.7249-yuan dollar.

All four T6 variants run the CEA electrical and electronic architecture that Volkswagen developed jointly with Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV). The two higher-end versions add LiDAR. That supplier partnership is doing real work in the product plan, not just the press releases.

The concept targeted young Chinese families and was pitched as a digital-cockpit, driver-assistance play for the compact segment — the market where VW's competitiveness in China is most exposed to domestic brands.

Four NEVs due in 2026

Under plans announced earlier this year, FAW-Volkswagen intends to introduce four all-new new-energy vehicle models in 2026, two of them in the ID. AURA lineup. Note the wording: announced plans, not confirmed production schedules.

If the teased sedan is confirmed as the second AURA model, FAW-VW would be running ahead of that calendar — two AURA models out before 2026 begins, with a year of launches still ahead. The sedan would also give the brand a presence in China's compact sedan market, where the volume is.

What to watch next: whether FAW-VW names the L5 and confirms the CMP/CEA specification at a formal unveiling — and whether the second of the two promised 2026 AURA models appears on schedule.
