Valeo adds e-powertrain line at Pune site

Valeo has launched an electric powertrain manufacturing line at its Pune site, producing traction motors, inverters and onboard chargers for passenger vehicles as India's EV supply chain scales.

Scope of change

  1. Valeo launched a new electric powertrain manufacturing line at its Pune site in India
  2. The line will produce traction motors, inverters and onboard chargers for passenger vehicles
  3. Valeo did not disclose production capacity, investment value or customer names for the new line

Valeo has launched a new manufacturing line for electric powertrain systems at its Pune site in western India, extending a plant that already supplies components to domestic and export programmes.

The line will produce traction motors, inverters and onboard chargers for passenger vehicles, according to the company. Valeo did not disclose production capacity, investment value or customer names tied to the new line.

The Pune operation forms part of Valeo's wider Indian footprint, which includes plants and engineering centres serving both local OEMs and global programmes. India remains a small but fast-growing market for electrified vehicles, and suppliers have been expanding local capacity to serve both domestic demand and export contracts.

Valeo's powertrain division has been shifting its product mix toward 48-volt systems, full electric drives and related electronics as European and Asian OEMs ramp up electrified line-ups. The company ranks among the world's largest tier-one suppliers, with powertrain electronics one of its core product lines.

The Pune line adds local production of e-axles and e-motors in a market where several OEMs, including Tata Motors and Mahindra, have committed to electrified portfolios. Tata has said electric variants will account for 30 percent of its passenger vehicle sales by 2030, while Mahindra plans eight electric SUVs by 2027.

Valeo has not confirmed which OEM contracts the Pune line will supply. The company has previously announced electrification investments across its global network, including sites in France, Germany and China.

What to watch: Valeo has not disclosed a production start date or capacity target for the line. Watch for customer announcements tied to the Pune operation, along with any disclosure of investment size, as the company reports quarterly results.
