Hyundai Mobis Begins Mass Production of EV Powertrains in Slovakia
Hyundai Mobis has started volume production of EV powertrain systems in Slovakia, its first European e-drive line, supplying the group's regional vehicle plants.
Scope of change
- Hyundai Mobis has started mass production of EV powertrain systems in Slovakia
- The line is the supplier's first volume production of e-drive systems in Europe
- Full annual capacity figures have not been disclosed

Hyundai Mobis has started mass production of electric vehicle powertrain systems in Slovakia, marking the supplier's first volume manufacturing of EV drive components in Europe.
The Slovak plant gives the Tier 1 supplier, the parts arm of the Hyundai Motor Group, a production base inside the European Union at a moment when local-content rules and tariffs increasingly reward regional sourcing. Hyundai Mobis supplies the Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands directly, and the new output strengthens the group's European EV supply chain.
The company has not yet disclosed full capacity figures for the line. What is confirmed is the start of mass production itself: the plant is now building EV powertrain systems at volume, not pilot scale. Investors and rivals should treat further capacity claims from the supplier as announcements to verify against actual vehicle output at Hyundai Motor Group's European assembly operations, notably Kia's plant in Žilina, Slovakia, and Hyundai's facility in Nošovice, Czech Republic.
The location matters. Slovakia has built one of Europe's densest automotive manufacturing clusters, with Kia, Volkswagen and Stellantis plants operating there and a deep base of Tier 2 suppliers. A powertrain plant in that grid shortens logistics routes to the group's Central European vehicle lines.
For Hyundai Mobis, the Slovak startup extends a strategy of building e-powertrain capacity close to customer assembly plants. The company already produces electrified powertrain components in Korea and China, and it has announced expansions in North America. The European line closes the triad.
The competitive context is tightening. European incumbents such as Bosch, ZF and Continental are restructuring their driveline businesses while scaling e-drive output, and Chinese suppliers are pushing into the European market with lower-cost units. A Korean Tier 1 with in-group demand — every Hyundai and Kia EV built in Europe is a guaranteed socket for Mobis components — holds a volume floor its independent rivals lack.
What to watch next: the plant's stated annual capacity once Hyundai Mobis publishes it, the first vehicle program confirmed to draw Slovak-built powertrains, and whether the supplier extends the line's scope to include battery systems or power electronics alongside the drive units.
